ALPHA GAMMA RHO ALUMS BEGIN NEW CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WITH GOAL OF $1 MILLION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND HOUSE RENOVATION.
For nearly 60 years, Alpha Gamma Rho has been a part of the University of Tennessee.During those 60 years, AGR has made good on its promise “To Make Better Men”. Nearly 1,100 men from a variety of backgrounds and hometowns have made AGR their collegiate home.
Fifteen years ago, a group of alumni took action because the chapter house was in “serious need” of renovation. These far-sighted brothers raised $300,000 to renovate the house. Because they recognized the need and took action AGR now occupies a modern, updated and debt-free chapter house. Meanwhile, our neighbors on fraternity row are tearing down their houses and conducting multi-million dollar capital campaigns to remodel existing houses or build new ones.
Today, the Alpha Kappa AGR Alumni Board sees a “serious need” to increase both AGR scholarship endowments and the house renovation fund. Recognizing the need to increase these funds and taking action now will prove as beneficial to Alpha Kappa as the house renovation, years ago.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $1 million. This is no small feat, but so far we have seen great success. Overall more than $350,000 has been committed (as of July 23, 2010).
Please consider making a five-year commitment to the campaign. You can choose to support an AGR scholarship endowment, the house renovation fund or both. You may want to join with brothers from your pledge class, initiation group, or your time in the fraternity to create your own scholarship award. Or consider leaving a legacy by endowing your own scholarship through an estate gift or planned gift. Whatever your choice, help us make a difference.
Our campaign is greatly assisted by Tom Looney, AKSN-738, who is the director of development for the UT Institute of Agriculture. He can answer questions you may have about gift options, planned/estate gift options and tax benefits.
Team captains for the campaign have been named and are responsible for contacting brothers in their groups. More information about the team captains and campaign can be found in the accompanying brochure and information sheet.
Please consider Alpha Gamma Rho and make a commitment. By doing so, you will put into action the AGR motto, “To Make Better Men”. You can make a difference in the lives of many young men with your contribution.

Team captains will contact you soon concerning the campaign and can answer any questions you may have. You may direct your gift to either scholarship endowments or to the house fund (see accompanying brochure).
Please note the active chapter is also participating in the campaign. They will be setting their own fundraising goal for the chapter; making pledges and raising funds to meet the goal.
The campaign will culminate with the Alpha Kappa 60th anniversary celebration on the week-end of the Parent-Founders Banquet in 2011. The alumni board is presently working on plans for the weekend celebration to be held sometime in April 2001. More information will be sent soon. Please consider attending.
Imagine what a recruiting tool it would be if Alpha Kappa had adequate scholarship endowments to annually fund $50,000 in scholarships to its active AGR members. Your contribution to one of the scholarships listed in the brochure, or creating a new scholarship with a major cash commitment or an estate gift can help make this a reality.
Believe it or not, the AGR house is over forty years old. While it is sound and in good shape, it requires periodic maintenance and repair. Some day substantial renovations may be needed or a new house may need to be built. The campaign helps us prepare by maintaining a sound renovation fund for future needs.
